Take out protest march
THE STATE’S transport officers postponed their programme of staging dharna till Sunday after chief secretary, Naveen Chandra Bajpai assured them of taking their case to Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav.
But they threatened to start holding a six-day dharna from Monday if their demands for lodging an FIR against SP MLA from Ramkola, Radheyshyam Singh for beating up ARTO, Kushi Nagar, and suspension of SO, Kaptanganj, Ranvijay Singh for his failure to act on the ARTO’s complaint were not met.
Meanwhile, around 200 transport officers, including RTOs and ARTOs today took out a protest march under the banner of UP Parivahan Adhikari Sangh. Bearing black badge on their arms, the officers started the march from the Transport Commissioner office. However, they were checked near the Vidhan Sabha and not allowed to proceed to the CM secretariat where they wanted to meet the chief secretary.
Later, the chief secretary office sent a message asking them that any five of the Parivahan Adhikari Sangh leaders could meet the chief secretary.
Accordingly, a five members delegation led by president, JA Siddiqui and general secretary, AK Pandey met the chief secretary in the evening and handed over two-point charter of demands to him. Chief secretary assured them of making the chief minister aware of their demands.

{{/usCountry}}Siddiqui said the transport officers would be forced to stage dharna for a week if the FIR against the SP legislator was not lodged and the SO, Kaptanganj suspended.
According to him, the SP legislator and his supporters humiliated and beat up ARTO (enforcement), Kushinagar, Sanjay Nath Jha when he caught a truck (UP 53/T-3755) during a routine checking and assed a tax recovery of Rs 35,500 against it on August 12.
The MLA asked the ARTO to hold his ears and do sit ups and warned him not to do any checking in future in the MLA’s area. This all happened in the Kaptanganj police station in the presence of SO, Ranvijay Singh, he added. He said when Jha gave his written complaint to the police station in the night itself but he was asked to obtain the receipt of the FIR next day. When he reached the police station next day, Jha noticed that his FIR was not lodged. He also found himself surrounded by the MLA and his supporters who asked him to withdraw his complaint.
Govt allocates work
THE STATE Government has finally allocated work to the Regional Transport Officers (City). A notification issued by Principal Secretary (Transport) Rajendra Bhaunwal specifies work and duties of the newly created posts of the RTOs.
The Government had last month created the post of RTO (City) in nine cities of Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra, Allahabad, Varanasi, Meerut, Gorakhpur, Bareilly and Moradabad.
