Tribunal to decide on SIMI ban

The tribunal is headed by Justice V K Chaturvedi. According to information, about 60 cases have been registered against SIMI activists in 11 districts of Madhya Pradesh and officials from all these districts have come here to present details of the cases to Justice Chaturvedi.

DIG (intelligence) Asudani has been appointed as the nodal officer by the State Government to deal with this matter. SIMI had been banned for two years in 2002. The ban was extended again for one year and it expired on September 2005. But, due to pressure from various state governments, the ban was re-imposed in February 2006.

Now this tribunal has been set up to see whether this ban is justified or not. The Madhya Pradesh Government has always been in favour of a ban against SIMI.

DIG Asudani confirmed to the Hindustan Times that the tribunal was in Indore said that they were presenting details of all the cases against SIMI activists in Madhya Pradesh and the tribunal will decide whether the ban was justified or not.
