Police on Thursday arrested a paramilitary trooper for allegedly killing a young man in a south Kashmir village.

Residents of Gabarpora village of Pulwama district, 40 km from Srinagar, alleged that a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) trooper, Ganjan Kumar of 166 Battalion, fired at an 18-year old youth after a heated argument between the two.

The villagers held a demonstration after the incident.
The district magistrate of Pulwama district, who rushed to the spot to pacify the protesters, told reporters that the CRPF trooper had been arrested following a complaint registered by the police.
The body of the slain youth, Bilal Ahmad Bhat, was later handed over to the relatives for burial.
