A head-on collision between a dumper and a Maruti Alto car claimed the lives of two men on the Faridabad-Sohna road on Sunday afternoon.
The deaths sparked protests by villagers who blocked traffic for over two hours till senior police officers rushed to the spot and convinced the agitating protesters.
The crash took place around noon on Sunday. A dumper on way to Sohna from Faridabad hit the Alto that was headed towards Faridabad, killing Vikas Kumar, of Nawada village in Faridabad, and Deepak Kumar, of Aligaon in Delhi, on the spot.
Two others, who were not named by the police, were taken to a private hospital in Faridabad.
Soon after the incident, residents of nearby villages blocked the Faridabad-Sohna road for about two hours. They were demanding immediate arrest of the driver of the dumper who is reported to have fled.
The villagers also demanded speed breakers on the Faridabad-Sohna road. Senior police officers, including DCP(Traffic) Krishen Murari, ACP(Traffic) Arma Ram and Sector 55 SHO Devinder Singh, went to the spot and convinced the agitating villagers that steps will be taken to build speed breakers on the road.
“The speed breakers were removed some time ago. We will request authorities to order construction of speed breakers as demanded by the villagers,” DCP(Traffic) Murari said.
