The season’s first heavy showers saw two building collapses in the island city, early on Sunday.

Two old buildings in a half-kilometre radius in Zaveri Bazaar collapsed, leaving one dead and three injured.

Both the buildings were unoccupied as they have been on the state’s ‘dangerous’ list for two years; the casualties were people on the street.
“We finished eating our food and lay down. I was asleep and woke to a heavy slab falling on me.
My other two friends lost consciousness. We were all bleeding,” said Arjun Khandal, who has been admitted to GT Hospital.
In Ghatkopar, a boundary wall of a building fell on three women walking by and injuring them, while a first-floor balcony of Melhji Vallabhai chawl in Dadar collapsed.
