Health officials blame dirty water supply to Luv Kush Nagar
TWO PERSONS died of gastroenteritis and about 150 were admitted to various city hospitals with similar symptoms during the past three days.
All of them belong to Luv Kush Nagar area.
Of the two who died on Monday, one was a 40-year-old man and the other a young girl. Atmaram was admitted to a private clinic on Saturday with complaints of diarrhoea and vomiting while the girl was admitted on Sunday.
Meanwhile, over 60 new patients from the locality were admitted to different hospitals with similar problems that took the total number of patients to over 150.
Alarmed with the rise in the number of paitents and the reported death, the health department is now preparing to lodge a formal complaint against the officials responsible for the state of affairs.
When contacted, chief medical officer (Lucknow) Dr KK Singh confirmed one death of Atmaram with acute diarrhoea and vomiting. He blamed the Jal Nigam employees for dirty water supply that resulted in to the deaths.
The girl was a native of Bahraich. She was staying with her relative vegetable vendor in the locality for past couple of days. Dr Singh said discussions were going on with the district administration to fix accountability for the spread of diahorreal symptons.

{{/usCountry}}“We are in a process to lodge FIR against the concerned staff responsible for dirty water supply to the area. It was told to our officials that pure drinking water supply was not available in the area for last couple of days,” said Dr KK Singh.
It may be mentioned that three months ago cases of acute diarrhoea were reported came in large number from the same locality.
Teams of health department and district administration visited the Luv Kush Nagar area to take stock of the situation. The teams found broken water pipelines at several places that were covered and tied with tubes to stop leakage. Somewhere the pipelines passed from near the sewer lines also.
Keeping in view the bad shape of water pipelines, two tankers of fresh drinking water were rushed into the locality this afternoon and people were advised to drink only boiled water.
“The situation was bad on part of water supply. Immediate actions has been demanded while medicine were distributed to the families,” Dr Singh said.
