The duo was alleged to be involved in an attack on a person during a marriage ceremony held last month.

Police have arrested five people from Killai village in Damoh for forcing the duo to take out pebbles from a cauldron filled with boiling oil as part of 'agnipariksha' to prove their innocence in the case.

In a similar incident, four boys were forced to put their hands in hot oil following theft accusation at Jhila village under Rahatgarh police station of Sagar district.

A mahapanchayat of Pardi community was convened in Killai village on Thursday to hear a complaint made by Inkar Pardi. He had alleged that Gabbar Pardi and Sobram Pardi had thrashed him during a marriage ceremony held last month. Inkar Pardi was seriously injured in the incident.

However, Damoh district collector Swatantra Kumar got information about the incident and ordered the police to register a case and take action.

The Dehat police station on report of Gabar and Sobram have arrested headman Bela Pardi and four others who conducted the mahapanchyat.However, the victims and their family members are still living in fear of social boycott by the community as they have reported the matter to the police.

Dehat police station officer Rakesh Tiwari said all the five accused persons have been booked under various sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
