TWO SECOND year B.Tech. Students of the lIT Kanpur, namely Mohit Bansal of the Computer Science and Engineering Department and Sameer Behre of the Mechanical Engineering Department have bagged the prestigious INLACKS Foundation Scholarship for the year 2006. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 per year for each student for the next three years.
A felicitation ceremony was organized by the institute to honour these students. The ceremony was attended by Director Prof Sanjay G Dhande, Dean of Students’ Affairs Prof Prawal Sinha, Dean of Academic Affairs Prof RK Thareja, Chairman Senate Scholarships and Prizes Committee Prof SK Chaudhary and a few other members of the selection committee including RK Dubey and Mukesh Sharma.
While presenting the first installment of the cheques for Rs. 25,000 each to the two awardees Prof Dhande congratulated the recipients and wished them success in future.
Prof Prawal Sinha also congratulated Mohit and Sameer and reminded them that they were now the role models for other students as well as the flag-bearers for the IIT-K.
Prof Choudhary said this was not the first time that IIT-K students had bagged such prestigious awards. A few months ago three IIT-K students had bagged the prestigious Aditya Birla Award. Prof.
Choudhary said the INLAKS Foundation was set up in 1976 by businessman Indoo Shivdasani with a corpus of US $ 4 million and was best known for the scholarships it gave to Indian students not only in the areas of engineering and science but also in areas as diverse as economics and fashion designing, media and philosophy, fine arts and special education, provided the applicant was not only brilliant in the field of study but also had the drive to succeed, whatever the circumstances. The trust is now being handled by the daughter of Shivdasani, Mrs. Bina Selda di Monteluce.

{{/usCountry}}Prof Sinha said these scholarships were given after a very rigorous selection procedure which culminated in a final interview where senior representatives of the INLAKS Foundation were also present. Mohit had his previous schooling at Virendra Swaroop College, Kidwai Nagar, Kanpur and Sameer had his schooling at Joy Senior Secondary School at Jabalpur. Speaking on this occasion, Mohit thanked his parents Bhanu Prakash Bansal and Sarita and Sameer also thanked his parents Sanjay Behere and Hemlata and his younger brother Aditya. Both of them were really indebted to their teachers both at the IIT-K as well as in their school days.
