A police spokesman said the blast took place inside a moving auto-rickshaw at around 8:10 pm in the busy GS Road.

"The explosion took place inside the auto-rickshaw with the driver and another passenger wounded in the attack. We are investigating the matter and it could be possible that the bomber who was travelling might have been injured with the devise exploding suddenly," a senior police official said.

The auto-rickshaw was badly damaged in the blast. The condition of both the injured was stated to be critical. The state has been rocked by a string of bomb attacks.

On Saturday, four people were killed and 45 wounded in four separate explosions in Tinsukia and Karbi Anglong districts in eastern Assam.

On June 24, six people were killed and 20 injured in a powerful explosion at the crowded Machkhowa market in Guwahati.

Police blamed all the blasts on the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), a rebel group fighting for an independent homeland since 1979.
