Two persons were killed and 37 houses set ablaze in continuing clashes between members of two communities in an interior village in central Assam's North Cachar Hills district on Saturday.

Members of a community came to the Phiding village and fired at random killing two persons on the spot, official sources said.

As the villagers ran helter skelter in panic, the attackers set on fire at least 37 houses completely gutting them, the sources said.

The attack followed Friday's firing at Jorai village in the same district by a group injuring a 45-year-old woman.

Two local communities had been engaged in turf war in the area for the past few months.
