Two killed, 8 injured in Sonepat mishap

Two people were killed and eight injured in a road mishap near Bighan Chowk at Sonepat town in the wee hours of Sunday. The deceased have been identified as Swaran Singh (57) and Neeraj Kumar (29), both residents of Chandigarh.

Two people were killed and eight injured in a road mishap near Bighan Chowk at Sonepat town in the wee hours of Sunday. The deceased have been identified as Swaran Singh (57) and Neeraj Kumar (29), both residents of Chandigarh.

Swaran Singh and Neeraj Kumar along with their family had started off from Chandigarh on Saturday night for a pilgrimage to Shirdi in a mini-bus. Neeraj Kumar was at the wheel, while Swaran Singh was sitting next to him. As their vehicle reached near Bighan Chowk at Sonepat around 4am on Sunday, the driver failed to see a tractor-trolley parked in the middle of the national highway no. 1.

The mini-bus, which was moving at a high speed, collided with the tractor-trolley with such an impact that the front portion of the mini-bus was badly damaged, which resulted in the death of the two occupants of the front seats and left eight others injured. The police reached the spot after getting information from locals and rushed the victims to the civil hospital, from there they were referred to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS), Rohtak.

Investigating officer Davinder Singh a case has been registered against the unidentified owner of the tractor-trolley on the complaint of the family of Swaran Singh.
