Two local CPI-M leaders were shot dead by unidentified persons while they were returning home after attending a party meeting.

Two local CPI-M leaders were shot dead by unidentified persons while they were returning home after attending a party meeting at Jagannathpur in Durgapur, police said on Wednesday.

Farooq Hossain (42) and Sudhir Barui (45) were beaten up with iron rods and then shot dead at Kendua More at 11 pm on Tuesday , police said, adding that they died on the spot.

CPI-M district committee secretary Amal Haldar alleged that the coal mafia was behind the murder.
