Two months on, Old Gurgaon locality yet to get water supply

Eighty houses, including hers have not been supplied water by the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) for over two months due to technical problems.

The MCG officials said water supply has been hit due to the pending construction work of a water pipeline. Residents said that after several appeals to MCG councillors Suresh Dua (Ward No. 19) and Birender Singh (Ward No. 21), a water tanker has been sent by the Public Health Department.

“The society has had no water supply for the last two-and-a-half-months. Children and working women can’t fill water because the supply is erratic. We have taken up this responsibility but it takes a toll on our health,” said Krishna Kumari, a senior citizen.

“We have little savings left after spending on private water tankers and doctors as the water from the tanker is of poor quality. The two-decade old pipeline has not been changed,” said Anil Kumar Tyagi, another resident.

Councillor Gujjar said that the construction got delayed because the tender had not been passed. The MCG junior engineer, Pankaj, said that the corporation had cut a pipeline to the colony after complaints of water contamination. “The four-inch pipes required were not available with the civic body. Work will start on Wednesday,” he said.
