Acting on a tip off, a joint party of army and police launched a search operation in Neel Charial area in Banihal tehsil of Ramban district around 1640 hours, they said.

Militants fired on the troops of 12 Rastriya Rifles and Special Task Force (STF), and in the encounter that followed two ultras were killed, officials said.

One pistol and one rifle were recovered from the militants whose identity has not been established so far, they said.
