Change of mindset, simplification of bureaucratic procedures, amendments in laws was needed to cater to changing needs of the Indian diaspora and safeguarding the larger interest of Non-Resident Indians, Union Minister of State for Overseas Indian Affairs Jagdish Tytler said in Mumbai on Friday.

Empathising with the problems, expectations and disappointment of NRIs during the plenary session on new initiatives for the Indian diaspora, Tytler said he had toured around 20 countries and obtained first hand information about the problems faced by the diaspora.
Calling for changes in archaic laws and scrapping of obsolete ones, he said laws needed to be modified and amended to suit changing mindset and needs of new generation of NRIs.
Voicing concern over exploitation of labour especially of nurses and housemaids in some countries, Tytler said that his ministry was planning ways to take effective steps against it.
