As Afghanistan prepares to have its first dedicated education channel, the University Grants Commission (UGC) on Wednesday began a special training for Afghan radio and TV professionals in broadcasting educational programmes.
The Consortium for Educational Communication (CEC), an inter-university wing of UGC for electronic media, is carrying out the 25-day long programme, being attended by nine professionals working at the Education Radio Television Centre under Afghanistan Government in Kabul.
"This programme is being sponsored by UNESCO. We will impart training on live interactive TV, on-line editing, radio transmission, satellite earth station management, graphic animation, multimedia and internet," CEC Director Prof GD Sharma told.
Another batch of eight professionals from Afghanistan were given training by CEC last month on areas like preparing curriculum-based programmes for education channels and preparing electronic content programmes.
CEC is a pioneering organisation in the country in the field of education programming on electronic media and has prepared over 15,000 educational programmes, he said.
"CEC has partnership with UNESCO for development of electronic content resources. The training would help these professionals better manage the educational programmes in the dedicated education channel which Afghanistan is planning to start soon," he said, adding the programme would continue till October 15.
