Ulfa blast kills armyman near Kokrajhar

An Indian Army jawan was killed and six others injured when suspected Ulfa militant triggered an IED blast targeting an Army convoy at Bamunghopa on NH 31 near the Pancharatna bridge (Naranaraya Setu) on Brahmaputra river in Goalpara on Tuesday.

An Indian Army jawan was killed and six others injured when suspected Ulfa militant triggered an IED blast targeting an Army convoy at Bamunghopa on NH 31 near the Pancharatna bridge (Naranaraya Setu) on Brahmaputra river in Goalpara on Tuesday.

The blast occurre at 10.20am.

Lt. Col S Phugot said that the incident occurred when a convoy of Army comprising nine vehicles was on its way to Agiya camp in Goalpara district from Kokrajhar district.

“One jawan was killed and six other were injured. The injured were taken to Army Base hospital at Basista in Guwahati”, said Lt. Col Phugot.

At 1.16 pm, publicity secretary of Ulfa’s anti talks faction, Arunudoy Asom sent a mail to media houses caliming responsibility of the attack. The outfit claimed that three army jawans were killed and nine others injured. “It was our regular protest against Indian Security forces”, said the Ulfa statement.

A big crater was formed on the road at the blast site. Army and police officials were on rushed to the spot.
