A suspected ULFA militant was killed today in a gunbattle with security forces in Assam's Darrang district.

In a joint operation by Army and the police, an ULFA militant belonging to the outfit's 709 battalion was killed in a pre-dawn encounter near Atarikhat tea estate of the district, official sources said.

An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and a Chinese pistol was found from the slain militant.
Meanwhile, security in the area has been stepped up and search operations are continuing, sources added.
