The former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, who in the past has led agitations in support of Hindu claims over the shrine, said she wanted Friday's event to pass off peacefully.

"Madhya Pradesh is a land of peace-loving people. I pray to God that everything passes off peacefully at Dhar. There should be full respect for law and order," Bharti said.

Her comments came after trouble broke out in the MP town when Muslim worshippers heading for Friday prayers were allegedly stopped by Basant Panchami participants.
