UN award for Karnataka Revenue dept

The department has been selected for good governance and innovative projects in rural and urban areas.

The Revenue department of Karnataka has been selected for the prestigious UN Public Service Awards for good governance and innovative projects in rural and urban areas.

The department is among eleven entities from as many countries chosen for this year's awards.

The awards were announced on the occasion of UN Public Service Day, which is observed on June 23.

UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social affairs Antonio Ocampo said each award winning institution has pioneered ways to make services more efficient and accessible to all members of the society.

They demanded attention, as novel models of governance at work in different parts of the world, he said adding that awardees were selected from 146 projects.

This year's awards focused on projects that prioritised accountability, service delivery, transparency and use of e-governance.

Others selected for the awards include Australia's Department of Industry, Tourism and Resources, Belgium's Crossroads Bank for Social Security, Brazil's Secretaria de Desenvolvimento Humano do Estado da Bahia, Canada's Provincial Court of Manitoba and South Korea's Ministry of Government Administration and Home Affairs.

The UN's Division for Public Administration and Development Management is responsible for administering the awards. Both developed and developing countries are eligible for the awards.
