CPM leader Brinda Karat on Saturday attributed the demand for separate Telangana state to unequal development of the regions in Andhra Pradesh.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the All India Kisan Sabha session here, she reiterated her party's commitment for unified Andhra Pradesh.

Brinda stated that backwardness of Telangana region fuelled the demand for separate state.
When a reporter drew her attention to the statements of Telangan leaders that backwardness is secondary and that the demand is based on self respect and a desire to rule themselves, she evaded the query.
