Uttar Pradesh government has decided to request the Centre for honouring freedom fighter Chandrashekhar Azad with Bharat Ratna award.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the state-level committee, constituted to observe Azad's birth centenary.

The committee also announced establishment of Azad Shooting Academy at his birth place Badarka, where a state-level shooting competition would also be organised.
Urban Development Minister Mohd Azam Khan said Azad's statue would be installed near the Assembly gate soon.
Besides, a grand park would be developed in the name of Azad, he said.
Khan said the conference hall of Allahabad circuit house should be named after Azad and a book-bank should be set up with collection of books written on him.
