Uttar Pradesh Governor TV Rajeshwar on Saturday said "reckless" granting of affiliation to various professional colleges had created a "chaotic" situation in the field of higher education in the state.

Inaugurating a seminar on 'Privatisation of Higher Education', he said as many as 147 BEd colleges affiliated to Meerut University had to be disaffiliated as they lack basic infrastructure.

The Governor said there had been a mushrooming of engineering, business management and computer education institutes in Greater Noida with no infrastructure facilities available in them.

Blaming the vice chancellors of universities concerned for granting affiliation to such institutes, Rajeshwar said he had dismissed three VCs and inquiries were on against two more for giving affiliation to "bogus" institutes.

"The Supreme Court had rightly laid down that affiliation should be granted only after confirming that adequate infrastructure facilities existed. Most of the problems were being created by deemed universities," he said at the function organised by the All India Federation of University College Teachers Organisations.
