Uttar Pradesh government has ordered a probe into the death of a five-year-old student, who died allegedly after he was beaten up by his teacher in Bareilly district on Monday.

"This is a serious matter. The government has ordered a probe in this regard. Basic Siksha Adhikari, Bareilly will probe the matter and give the report to the government," Basic Education minister Ram Govind Chowdhury told reporters.

Araj, a kindergarten student of a private school in Bareilly's Rath village, died after he was allegedly beaten up by his teacher, police said.

According to an FIR filed by the parents of the minor, they got a call from the school that they should come to pick up their ward as he was ill, SP Rural Brijesh Kumar Srivastava had earlier said.

When the parents reached the school, they found Araj unconscious and rushed him to a hospital, where he died, the SP said.
