Firoz Khan, 26, a primary school teacher from Bulandshahr, UP is on cloud nine these days. Reason — He is the first teacher from UP to have been nominated to represent India at the ‘Microsoft World Wide Innovative Teachers Conference 2012’ in Czech Republic.
The conference will be held from November 27 to December 2, 2012. A total of six teachers have been selected from across the country to participate in the conference.
Over 1,31,583 teachers from across the country (government and private schools) registered for this contest. Around 28,579 ICT projects were submitted for the same. The other five teachers have been selected from Delhi, MP, West Bengal, Maharashtra and Rajasthan. “It gives me immense pleasure to know that I’m the first teacher to be selected from the state. It is a great honour because I was competing with teachers of CBSE and ICSE schools who are well versed in technology as compared to teachers in government schools,” says Firoz who teaches all subjects to Class 5 students in his school.
A science graduate and a postgraduate in mass communication, Firoz submitted a project on chemical history. “In my power point presentation, I used a lot of animation to explain the concept in an interesting manner. The students will find it easier to understand the way in which I explained chemical history,” said Firoz.

The event gives the winners a unique opportunity to share their practices with likeminded teachers from across the world. The annual national contest for teachers ITLA (Innovative Teachers Leadership Awards) concluded on February 29, 2012. This year’s contest received an overwhelming response.
