More than 40 days after the chairman and the chief executive officer (CEO) of the Noida authority were transferred, there have been no replacements.

Uttar Pradesh’s urban development minister Azam Khan attributed the delay to “political compulsions”.

Talking to Hindustan Times at Greater Noida, Khan said, “Noida is an asset to our state. There are some political compulsions delaying the decision to appoint a new CEO and a chairman. It will not be my decision alone. We will all collectively take a call. It takes time to decide on such issues,” said Khan.

But are 42 days not enough to decide who will head the authority? “It is a sensitive city. Thus, the issue is taking time. Only the chief minister can let you know about the delay in deciding on CEO and chairman.” The vacancies have meant development projects in Noida have taken a backseat because there is no decision-making authority.

Khan said that the decision of opening of Dalit Prerna Sthal in Noida, a dream project of former chief minister Mayawati, to public will be a collective one. “Our government collectively will take a call on the matter,” he said.

Khan said that the Samajwadi Party government would not misuse public money. He said Mayawati of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) spent about Rs 1, 000 crore on building parks and memorials in Noida and Greater Noida.
