The State government on Friday announced increase of Rs 25 per quintal in state advisory price (SAP) for sugar cane during current crushing season.
The Cabinet also de-freezed the annual grant of three state universities including Lucknow University. The Lucknow university annual grant has been increased from existing Rs 22.85 crore to Rs 36 crore.
The decision was taken at the state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mayawati. The government said that the hike in price was more than state support price of Rs 10 in Haryana and Rs 20 in Punjab in 2009-10 per quintal. It would help lakhs of sugarcane farmers in the state, the government said.
While SAP for high quality cane has been fixed at Rs 170 per quintal, for common and un-suitable categories the support prices would be Rs 165 and Rs 162.50 per quintal respectively. During the last crushing season the prices were Rs 145 for high quality, Rs 140 and Rs 137.50 for common and un-suitable categories respectively.
The central government had fixed statuary minimum price (SMP) at Rs 107.76 per quintal for current season with 9.5 per cent recovery from sugar cane. The state government had constituted a committee headed by Chief Secretary AK Gupta, which consulted farmers, sugar mill owners and other involved in the business to decide the fresh price.
Concession: In order to boost IT sector the government has decided to give various facilities. These facilities would be available up to March 31, 2010. Similarly lease rent of commercial plots has also been reduced from 2.5 percent annually to one percent and in case of one time payment from Rs 27.5 per cent to 11 per cent. Relaxing provisions of UP Information and Technology policy-2004 the Cabinet has approved the proposal to exempt call centers from stamp duty with a rider that they would have to complete the project within five years from the date of commencement. In view of recession the Cabinet has relaxed the condition of payment to land allotment defaulters up to March 31, 2010.
