UPA, Left begin N-gagement

The UPA-LEFT panel on the India-US nuclear deal had its first meeting on Tuesday, with both sides agreeing to discuss the India-specific Hyde Act and its implication on the 123 Agreement.

The UPA-LEFT panel on the India-US nuclear deal had its first meeting on Tuesday, with both sides agreeing to discuss the India-specific Hyde Act and its implication on the 123 Agreement.

The broad parameters and the panel’s terms of reference have been finalised, panel chairman Pranab Mukherjee said.

After the meeting, the CPM’s Sitaram Yechury read out a brief statement that said the two sides had agreed to discuss the details of the Hyde Act on India’s self reliance in the nuclear sector and on foreign policy and security cooperation. The panel next meets on September 19.
