An inquiry has found a difference of around Rs 7 crore in the monthly profit /loss statements of some regions and the actual balance -sheet for the year 2005-06.

Taking a serious note of the matter, outgoing MD Deepak Trivedi had on August 24 dashed off a stern letter to all the regional managers (RMs) warning them of tough action if they continued to fudge figures. The letter advised the assistant regional managers (finance) to directly complain to the MD if their RMs forced them to fabricate figures.

“From analysis of the final accounts of 2005-06, it appears that there is a lot of variation in the figures of the monthly profit/loss accounts and the final actual accounts, as being furnished by most of the regions,” said Trivedi in the letter, adding, “It appears that you are providing misleading figures to the SRTC management and not apprising it of the actual situation. This is very serious and regrettable.” He further wrote, “If any variation is found in future, disciplinary action will be initiated against you, holding you personally accountable.”

Sources said that some RMs had given it in writing that their predecessors were fudging figures to show more profits and now their income could not be compared to that of theirs as they sent actual figures. “But it is to be seen if the management will ever take any action against the erring RMs,” added sources.
