Bush administration has invited UN Secretary General Kofi Annan's adviser on Iraq for a briefing on its plans for post-war reconstruction of the country.
Annan had named Rafeeuddin Ahmed, a Pakistani national and former UN Assistant Secretary-General, as his special adviser at meeting with the Security Council members at which he also stressed that the world body should have "lead role" in the rebuilding efforts.
The United Nations said Ahmed would be briefed by State and Defence Departments and National Security Council Monday.
The Bush administration is considering giving the United Nations role only in the humanitarian field but Russia, France and Germany are pressing for the world body to play a central role in political field also.
Washington has repeatedly said that US led coalition would have the lead the role in installing interim government and rebuilding of the country with the world body having advisory role in this field.
At the meeting, diplomats say the Bush administration would make it clear to Ahmed what the limits of the United Nations would be in its plan.
As of now, the US wants the Security Council to endorse an "appropriate post-conflict" administration and also facilitate sending of humanitarian aid.
