US spotlight on India at AU meet
A PROGRAMME on the ?New India: Opportunities and challenges in the Knowledge Economy? will be organised jointly by SPAN magazine of United States and US Educational Foundation in India at Allahabad University (AU) on October 6, 2006.
A PROGRAMME on the ‘New India: Opportunities and challenges in the Knowledge Economy’ will be organised jointly by SPAN magazine of United States and US Educational Foundation in India at Allahabad University (AU) on October 6, 2006.

Dr Rafiq Dossani, consulting professor, Asia/Pacific Research Center, Standford University, USA, will be the keynote speaker at the programme.
AU chief public information officer Prof Amarendra Kumar Singh said that the programme will address economic challenges and opportunities for India as it pursues economic and market reforms and integrates in a global knowledge-based economy and the education and career opportunities challenges that go with that transition.
Prof Singh said that the discussions will focus on the four pillars of the knowledge economy, including developing educated and skilled workers, creating an efficient innovation environment, strengthening economic and institutional reforms and building an effective information infrastructure.
Prof Singh said that the programme will have a morning session from 10 am to 12 pm in which Dr Dossani, Dr Bhaskar Majumdar of GB Pant Social Science Institute (GBPSSI), Prof AK Mukherjee of AU’s Department of Commerce and Management will hold discussion with focus on opportunities and challenges that India faces
as it transitions to the global knowledge economy. The events will be conducted both in English and Hindi.
The afternoon session from 2 pm to 3 pm will have two concurrent sessions, a student advising session at North Hall of AU’s Senate House which will focus on pursuing higher education in US.
Dr Vijay Khandavilli, Country Co-ordinator — Educational Advising Services of US Educational Foundation in India will address student queries on when, how and where to apply for the courses in the United States and related queries on topics such as scholarships and visas.
