In a surprising move, the Uttaranchal Public Service Commission has refused to recognise the degrees awarded to them by the UPRTOU and on that basis has not sent call letters for the interviews being held for the Trained Graduate Teachers (TGT) to around five dozen applicants. UPRTOU officials, on coming to know about the development, have contacted the Uttaranchal Public Service Commission authorities and also forwarded all the relevant proofs to assure about the degrees being genuine and fully recognised, but the affected students are still awaiting a positive response from Uttaranchal.
The problem, the first of its kind being experience by UPRTOU students, arose when students who have graduated from the open varsity in one subject applied for the TGT jobs advertised by the Uttaranchal Public Service Commission and were informed that their degrees are not recognised by them.
The shocked students contacted the vice-chancellor and the Registrar of UPRTOU and informed them that the Uttaranchal government has refused to recognise their degrees and the state's public service commission has also refused to send them call letters for the interview. Acting immediately, the UPRTOU officials contacted the Uttaranchal Public Service Commission chairman and the secretary.
"As soon as we were informed about the development, we contacted the Uttaranchal officials in front of the students themselves.
We informed them that the varsity and its courses are fully recognised by the University Grants Commission besides the Distance Education Council and the Association of Indian Universities.
We also informed them that the university has been established only after the State Assembly passed a Bill in this regard," said Dr Ratnakar Shukla, UPRTOU Registrar.
He informed that the students have informed that 58 of them had applied for the TGT jobs. Dr Shukla said that Uttaranchal public service commission's secretary has informed them that the name of UPRTOU is missing from their list of recognised universities. "We are continuously in tough with Uttaranchal officials and our vice-chancellor Prof KNS Yadav has personally spoken with the chairman of the Uttaranchal Public Service Commission chairman in this regard. We are hopeful of an early resolution of the problem," he added.
