Team of doctors led by Dr Abbas Naqwi and Dr Sandeep Dave are closely monitoring the health conditions of the ailing Congress leader.

Talking to Hindustan Times, Dr Naqwi said, 'On Saturday afternoon Shukla's condition deteriorated and he developed some complications, which was controlled by medication'. "His condition is very critical but stable and he is presently under external ventilator support as his lungs owing to infection have become quite weak".

Shukla is continuing to have problem in taking breaths and is being assisted artificially through 'bipep machine'. According to the doctors he is primarily being treated for chest infection and his heart rhythm too is not normal.

According to his son Amitesh Shukla the senior Congress leader had asked the family members, while undergoing treatment in Delhi, to take him back to Raipur. Following which he was brought to Chhattisgarh capital by air-ambulance.

Besides Congress leaders, the chief minister Dr Raman Singh and some of his cabinet colleagues visited the hospital to enquire about his health and well-being.
