A delegation of VHP leaders is expected to call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi soon and demand action on the construction of a Ram temple in Ayodhya, according to a resolution passed by the central panel of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) in Haridwar.
The Ayodhya temple issue is pending in the Supreme Court after the Allahabad high court’s 2010 decision of splitting the disputed site into three parts was challenged in the apex court.
The central committee of the VHP also proposed a legal ban on cow slaughter during its two-day meeting that concluded on Monday. Over 150 office-bearers of the committee (Kendriya Marga Darshak Mandal) of the VHP attended the meeting.
VHP president Pravin Togadia said, “Just as the Somnath temple was reconstructed by the government of India, in the same way the Modi government must take an initiative to rebuild the Ayodhya temple. The court procedures take a long time to resolve.”
Mahamandaleshwar of Udasin Bada Akhara Swami Harichetananand said, “We have full faith in the government of Ram devotees that they will agree to our proposal and take initiative in building the temple.”
VHP delegates and saints also expressed concern over the condition of cows and river Ganga and exhorted people to contribute whatever they could to restore the sanctity of the Ganga, which has become a dumping ground for drains and industrial wastes.
