52-year-old Swarn Singh of Nonihal entered the firing range despite a warning put up by the Army that they were engaged in a firing practice in Nowshera belt of Rajouri district on Monday evening, official sources said.

As he went inside the firing range, he was hit by the bullet and was shifted to hospital where he died.

The body has been handed over to his family after post-mortem, they said.

Villagers of Nonihal on Tuesday held protests over Singh's death and demanded compensation from the Army.

In another incident, a villager was injured when his gun accidentally went off when he was cleaning it at his residence in Bhamla area of Rajouri district on Monday night, they said, adding he was hospitalised.
