Himachal Pradesh chief minister Virbhadra Singh on Tuesday arrived in the Capital to present his version to the Congress leadership on the allegations levelled by the BJP that he allegedly took financial favours from a private power firm.
Singh said the BJP was indulging in a “malicious propaganda” against him and his family, since the saffron party was scared of the ongoing investigations into the large-scale irregularities in the affairs of the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association.
Singh, a six-time chief minister of the hill state, issued an eight-page statement, denying the allegations.“Frustrated BJP leaders are fabricating false stories and twisting and tampering facts to suit their convenience. They have been waging the same old issues pertaining to my income tax return and loan taken by my family, which have been replied to and clarified time and again and there is nothing material or new in them,” Singh said in his point by point rebuttal.
Leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Arun Jaitley on Monday stated that Singh had allegedly taken a “bribe” from a private company in return of granting it extension for completion of a power project in Himachal Pradesh.
Congress sources did not confirm reports that Singh, a six-time chief minister had been summoned to explain his position and added that allegations against him were leveled by BJP leaders even before the state assembly elections in November 2012.

The chief minister’s wife and Congress Lok Sabha MP, Prathiba Singh, who has also been accused of being involved in the alleged deal, visited the party headquarters and met senior leaders.
