Akash and Pratibha are on ventilator support while Ankit was shifted to the general ward this afternoon in the department of paediatrics at KGMU. The condition of Pratibha deteriorated on Sunday after which she was put on ventilator.
Several children fell ill on Friday afternoon and had to be rushed to hospitals, but three were critically ill. Akash was first admitted to Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee hospital and later referred to the KGMU Trauma Centre while Pratibha was brought straight to the trauma centre.
Doctors are treating the kids for toxicity that might have been caused by medicine or other foodstuff. Health and education departments are both waiting for the laboratory test reports of the samples of medicine and vomit. The reports are likely to arrive in the next few days.
“Once the reports arrive the cause behind the death of Mansi and illness of several others would be clear,” said chief medical officer (Lucknow) Dr KK Singh.
Meanwhile, officials of the UNICEF are also investigating the entire episode since the medicine that was administered was a UNICEF supply. A team of representatives has arrived in the city and they are also waiting for the laboratory reports.
