"The company (Vodafone) has a long standing association with sports globally, ranging from Formula 1 with the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes to the UEFA Champions League," Chairman of the IPL Lalit Modi said in a statement here.

"I am certain the company's association with the DLF Indian Premier League as its official partner will prove to be mutually beneficial," he said.

"The association with Vodafone bears testimony to the success of the IPL and reiterated the fact the league is set to carve out a distinct niche for itself in the international cricketing calendar," Modi said.

"Customers of Vodafone will now be able to book tickets for matches using their telephones. They can also participate in predicting the Man of the Match at each game and the winner of the contest will be announced at the end of each game," officials said.

"Vodafone Essar, a subsidary of Vodafone Group Plc, has operations in 16 circles in the country with almost 44.12 million customers in India," the statement said.
