RLD chief Ajit Singh called for a ‘second war of Independence’ against the “corrupt and tyrannical” rule of the BSP and the “goonda raj” of the SP on Saturday.
“Mayawati has been counting notes by selling off farmer’s lands all the way from Noida to Agra….Mulayam Singh Yadav symbolised the free reign of criminal elements,” Singh said at a well attended rally at the Mant constituency in Mathura.
Singh’s son Jayant Chaudhary, the RLD MP from Mathura, is contesting for the assembly polls from this Jat-dominated constituency.
The Congress-RLD is the only political combination that has not promised freebies like laptops and free English education. “It is a big farce being played out. If things go on in this manner, parties in the north will end up like their counterparts in the south, who have been promising free TV sets etc. The Congress-RLD has taken a conscious decision to stay out of the meaningless rat race,” Chaudhary told HT.
In his forceful speech, Singh emphasised on the theme that the youth of Uttar Pradesh want employment and development and are not concerned about caste and religion. He appealed to them to give a fitting reply to Mayawati and Yadav and vote for the RLD-Congress combine.
Projecting its futuristic and modern outlook, leaders from both parties have been criticising the backward-looking politics of the BSP, SP and BJP. “Our combination is concerned about issues and not about gimmicks. The state needs industrialisation and the youth need jobs. These are issues that we will continue fighting for,” Chaudhary said.
