Want quake-safe house? Don?t cut corners!
CORNERS MATTER when it comes to building a quake-safe house. But, you also need to know where to place windows and doors besides the right material ratio to give your house quiver-resistance. These and many such tips came up at a workshop for mansions organized by TATA Tiscon and United Nation Development Programme at Vikas Bhawan on Friday. The workshop was one in the series ‘Disaster Management Programme’ being conducted for the mansions.
“Perfect sand and cement ratio, windows and doors at right places and at correct distance with each other, strong foundation and slabs and the right kind of material. This would not only give longevity to your house but can even save it from the tremors during earthquakes,” said Tribhuvan Singh of the UP Administration and Management Academy. The experts also shared tips for better construction of residential and commercial complexes. Singh said earthquakes have no particular direction or area for giving tremours. They change places and intensity. “That is why safeguarding houses up to a certain limit of tremour is essential so that range of destruction may remain minimum,” Singh said.
Giving construction tips to the mansions experts said that considerable gap should be given from corner of the house while constructing windows and doors here.
