The state school education department is launching a website next month for the purpose. “Last week, we began conceptualising the website. If someone wants to complain about a school or college that asks for a donation or if a student has any suggestions about the syllabus, he or she can log on and file the details,” said school education minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil.

“Interacting with parents and students is very important, especially at school level.” The website will have the contacts for all relevant officials and the progress made by these officers on complaints will be charted on the website.

If a parent or student is not satisfied with the progress, he or she can contact regional directors. There are eight regional directors in Maharashtra. If still no action is taken, the website will allow you to write to the education minister himself.

“My team will look through what parents and students have to say and we will ensure appropriate action,” Patil said.

But before the website is launched, the education department is going to direct schools to put up posters about the rules they ought to be following.

“Having an online portal will be convenient and simple, but it will amount to little if our complaints and suggestions end up in files that are never looked at,” said Juhu resident Priya Ahuja whose son is a Class 9 student.
