Delhi Police and Kolkata Police were face-to-face over the arrest of model-turned-actor Shayan Munshi, a key witness in the Jessica Lall murder case who was nabbed at the Kolkata Airport while he was travelling to Bangkok.

While Kolkata Police arrested Munshi on the basis of the look-out circular for him, Delhi Police issued statement saying that his arrest was "not required" in the case.

"The look-out circular was issued to ensure Munshi's presence in India for investigation in the Jessica Lall murder case," Delhi Police said.

Maintaining that they did not want his arrest, a Delhi Police spokesman said that the Kolkata Police has been asked to inform Munshi to join investigation in the Jessica Lall case.

"If he had to travel abroad, he should have informed us," he said.

Munshi, who had turned hostile during the high-profile murder trial, was apprehended by officers of the immigration department at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport when he turned up to complete formalities before boarding a Bangkok-bound Indian flight.

He was arrested on the basis of a Delhi police look out notice while trying to leave the country along with his family, North 24 Parganas Superintendent of Police Praveen Kumar said.

Munshi was handed over to the Airport police and later produced before the Barrackpore SDJM.

Magistrate Gopal Karmakar, after hearing both the prosecution and Munshi's lawyer, granted him bail on a surety of Rs 5,000.

Munshi was also asked to surrender his passport at the Airport police station.
