Warne was unable to play in the fourth and final Test against India, now in progress here, after fracturing the thumb in his bowling hand during a match-eve practice session. He played in the first three matches of the series.

Hodge and White were also sent home after they were not picked in the playing eleven for the last Test of the series for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
