A Government Railway Police (GRP) constable was suspended after a passenger recorded him on his mobile phone allegedly asking passengers for money in lieu of seats on a train, sources said on Wednesday.
The unidentified passenger also posted the video on social media and the clip landed on one of the WhatsApp groups where officials of GRP and railway protection force officials are members.
Official sources said the constable in the video, which is nearly 2 minutes 50 seconds, has been identified as Amit Malik. The video shows Malik demanding and pocketing money inside the moving train from passengers.
The GRP officials lodged an FIR into the incident at Ghaziabad GRP police station and booked Malik for extortion and also under the provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act and the Police Act.

{{/usCountry}}Senior GRP officials said Malik accepted his involvement during questioning and said that he was allegedly demanding money from passengers to offer them seats inside the train.
“The incident took place on March 29 near Ghaziabad inside Sapt Kranti Express while he was on duty. He has been suspended and action for termination will also be initiated against him. A detailed investigation is going on into the incident,” Vaibhav Krishna, superintendent of police GRP at Moradabad, said.
Officials in Ghaziabad said they will also send the video for further forensic examination and will try to get in touch with the person who recorded the video for his statements.
