Releasing the water from the reservoir, Municipal Administration and Rural Development minister K P Munusamy said the water was let out on July 1 last year, when the DMK government was in power. Now it has been released in June itself. This is happening after 28 years, he said..

Currently the water outflow stood at 150 cusecs while the dam storage level was at 49.5 feet. The water will flow through both right and left channels.

As the met department has predicted good monsoon this year, he said water for the second crop will also be released as per schedule.
