The West Bengal government was yet to receive any formal communication from the Union Law Ministry about initiating the process of execution of Dhananjoy Chatterjee, convicted for raping and killing a 14-year old girl, following the rejection of his mercy petition by President A P J Abdul Kalam on Wednesday.

"We have heard about it, but no formal communication has been received from the Centre yet," official sources said in Kolkata on Wednesday.
Neither the Chief Secretary nor the Home Secretary of the state were available for comment.
Meanwhile, the office of the State Advocate General here said it would take some time for the secretariat of the AG to receive a formal communication in this regard.
Dhananjoy was sentenced to death by a Sessions Court in Kolkata on August 12, 1991 for the rape and murder of a teenager in 1990 and the order was confirmed by the Calcutta High Court in 1992.
The Supreme Court had also upheld the conviction and sentence in January, 1994.
