"In order to meet future challenges, automotive companies will need to look at ways and means of not only ensuring that the best available talent is chosen to lead them, but also to identify the leaders of tomorrow," Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Minister Santosh Mohan Deb said.

"We are at the threshold of many Nano-like achievements provided we have the right kind of leadership," the minister said on the sidelines of 48th SIAM Annual Convention 2008 here. He heaped praises on Ratan Tata's vision in coming up with the Nano concept, the world's cheapest car.

"It has not only demonstrated the Indian capability to innovate but also India's strength in frugal engineering," he said adding that Tata Group had also shown leadership in the global arena by acquiring the Jaguar Land Rover.

With rising oil prices becoming a concern for the automotive industry, Deb said the government is willing to provide assistance for alternate fuel options such as the hybrid.

"Hybrid is one other area where the government is ready to provide all help to stabilise and commercialise the technology in India," he said.
