Chidambaram, however, made it clear that India was still better placed than other nations.

“It is wrong to say that we are more vulnerable, in fact, we are better placed than many other countries,” he declared at the three-day India Economic Summit that ended on Tuesday.

The home minister said he was “confident” that the government would be able to regain “total control” over naxal-infested areas. “We are building capacity, competence ... we have had significant achievements in thwarting potential terrorist attacks over the past 12 months,” Chidambaram said at the session: A Roadmap for India’s next Generation of Growth.
