Wed close: Sensex ends 16 pts higher

Sensex gains over 16 points to set a new closing high peak of 14,131.34 led by bank and capital goods stocks.

The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex gained over 16 points to set a new closing high peak of 14,131.34 mainly led by bank and capital goods stocks.

The 30-share index rose 16.61 points, or 0.1 per cent, to set a new high closing peak at 14,131.34. However, the National Stock Exchange's Nifty lost 4.05 points at 4,076.45.

The market remained in a bullish mood after reports that industrial production expanded at the fastest pace in 11 years in November, besides steady inflow of quarter earnings by leading companies.

Information Technology stocks were in better form after Wipro announced a significant rise in net income in the third quarter.
