Mohammad Shakeel Ahmad is desperate for a miracle.
His 10-year-old conjoined twins are in dire need of an operation to separate them and the benefactor funding it has washed his hands off the affair.
The twins, Farah and Saba Shakeel, are joined at the head.
Late last year, a prominent personality from a Middle East country had approached Ahmad through his country’s embassy to finance the separation, if the father agreed.
Since it was Ramzan then, Ahmad said he would give his assent after the fasting period.
Soon after, the Patna Municipal Corporation demolished his dhaba for encroachment.
Around the same time, the embassy too stopped answering his calls about the operation.
The separation of Farah and Saba is expected to cost $1 million.
Tests at Delhi's Apollo Hospital showed that the twins require a complicated surgery as they share an artery to their hearts and another vessel that drains blood in the brain. Also, Farah has two kidneys while Saba has none and will need a transplant.
Since returning from Delhi, Saba has not only lost her appetite, but has shooting pains in her right hand, while Farah's legs are not in good shape.

{{/usCountry}}Had Ahmad given his permission, Dr Benjamin Carson of the Johns Hopkins Children Centre in Baltimore was to have carried out the surgery.
Ahmad is ready now, but the saviour he was banking on seems to be having second thoughts.
